About us

The Dominican Dance Company (DDC) was founded by Lisa Madeira and Andrew Meszaros back in 2012 when it was originally known as the Bachata Project.  Since then, it has fast-grown to become one of Melbourne’s most prominent dance company’s specialising in Bachata.

Their weekly event Club Bachata is recognized for their fun and vibrant social atmosphere where ANYONE can learn to dance from scratch and make some new friends along the way!

Lisa Madeira, 2016 Australian Bachata Soloist Champion (ALDC), has been dancing nearly all her life.  She draws upon her earlier years of ballroom training and later years of Latin dancing to spread her passion to every student she meets, and deliver each class with technique.  Together with her ever-friendly and bubbly personality, she always makes every class a memorable one where students come back for more.  “I love Bachata because of the ease of which you can learn it and it brings together so many different people.  I’ve seen countless new friendships and social circles blossom from these dances and I’m proud to be part of it”.

Andrew started dancing from the ripe age of 25.  With rhythm in his blood thanks to his musical background, he was introduced to Latin dancing and a new passion started to unfold.  Over the years he developed his technique for both Salsa and Bachata along with fellow dance partner Lisa Madeira.  Now a passionate teacher of Bachata as well as DJ, Andrew believes combining music with your body through these styles of dance can bring out the best in everyone. “It doesn’t matter how old you are, your background, whether you’ve danced or not, Bachata is for anyone!”

In their time together, Lisa and Andrew have gained the reputation among the Australia Latin dance scene for their superior methods of teaching and coaching.  They have risen to achieve many awards including National Team Champions* and 3-time State Champions of Bachata*.  Now their focus is on sharing their passion through a mix of fun social dancing events and performing with their teams.

What do our students have to say?

Tony Barton and Lisa Madeira National Champions

“Having the opportunity to be coached by Lisa Madeira, a championship winning dancer who believed in me when I had serious doubts, take me on and turn me into a dancer, is a once in a lifetime. I am so thankful, excited and more inspired than ever. Hey everybody – come out dancing!” – Tony Barton 10 July 2016.

Charlie Shi and Lisa Madeira National Champions

“My BIGGEST ‘thank you’ goes to my coach Lisa Madeira. I would not be here without you. I cannot begin to describe how much you’ve helped me to grow.” Charlie Shi – 10 July 2016

"While our accomplishments this weekend are sensational, I'm more astounded by the beautiful relationships that can be cultivated through this world of dance we're all a part of. You guys are my heart. I guess a 1st place Australian Latin Dance Championship title doesn't hurt either? 😜" - Katie Boyle 12 July 2016
